concept Edition v1 2 senses 2 attestations Bhagavad Gītā (mūla)
In the supplied attestations doṣa denotes the moral fault or wrong consequent upon the destruction of a family (kula-kṣaya). At BhG 1.37–38 Arjuna names the "doṣa produced by the destruction of the family" (kula-kṣaya-kṛta doṣa) as something he and his side, unlike the lobha-blinded enemy, are able to foresee and thus ought to recoil from. At BhG 1.42 the term appears in the plural (doṣaiḥ) for these same faults, here characterized as belonging to the destroyers of the family (kulaghna) and as the agents that produce the intermixture of varṇas (varṇa-saṃkara), thereby effacing the eternal jāti- and kula-dharmas. The concept is thus a social-ethical one: transgression arising from familial destruction, whose downstream effect is the collapse of inherited dharmic order.
