concept Edition v1 2 senses 2 attestations Bhagavad Gītā (mūla)
In the supplied attestations rājya denotes kingdom or sovereignty as an object of desire and ambition. Both loci come from Arjuna's despondency speech in the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gītā (mūla). In them rājya is set alongside vijaya (victory), bhoga (enjoyments), and sukha (pleasures) as the kinds of goods one might crave, and is explicitly rejected by Arjuna: he says he does not desire it (1.31), and he questions its worth when those for whose sake it would be wanted — teachers, elders, kin — stand arrayed to be killed in battle (1.32). The term thus functions here not as a doctrinal category but as a concrete worldly end whose value Arjuna repudiates because attaining it requires slaying his own people.
